Earlier this summer, possibly the first Taiwanese-style food truck in the United States drove into town and opened for lunch at neighborhoods around New York City. The response? Long lines and lively word-of-mouth between friends and food blogs—enough so that NYC Cravings sold out of their signature fried chicken at their first appearance in Midtown.

#4. It’s TAIWANESE FOOD!!!
There are days when I have no interest in pizza or sandwiches from the local deli or Pret near my office. And there are days when I want something exciting and cool for lunch. Luckily, it’s days like these when I get on Twitter and Yelp and discover that there are options. Yes! There…are….options! So the second I heard about the NYC Cravings Truck, I immediately grabbed my cell, told my boss i’m stepping out for food, and ran for the subway. 10 minutes later, I’m in a line ordering pork chops on rice and enough food to satisfy my hunger and curiosity. The service..great. The food…great. The portion…very sizable.
Listen, it’s yummy, ethnic food that is more expensive than Chinatown (isn’t everything?) but they don’t have anything on the NYC Cravings Truck. Honest.
Wow, I was really surprised at the mediocre reviews for the Cravings Truck as it’s one of my favorite new street meat finds. Even more impressive given the context of my meal in direct competition with some of the very best vendors in NYC at the Vendy Awards in Flushing. I had spent hours stuffing my face with everything from kati rolls to dulce de leche waffles to jerk chicken. It was true gluttony at its finest and right before I rolled my food baby home, I noticed there wasn’t a huge line for the Cravings truck and decided to power through and risk excess.
They served me a full plate of rice smothered in mustard greens and some meaty crack-laced stew, Taiwanese fried chicken, pork chops and both meat and vegan dumplings. This was not a plate for someone who had just eaten enough to feed a village. Yet as soon as I tasted the saucy rice, the succulent fried chicken…I was hooked. By far my favorite truck at the Vendy’s, I might even trek to downtown to feed my brand new Craving. Thanks a lot crack truck!
