ABOUT
Chow down on finger-licking baby backs and Louis ribs sold by the piece or go in on a half dozen with a hungry posse. Put out the fire in your belly with a hand-pulled, ten-hour-smoked pork sandwich. Need it all? Go for a triple combo of sliders loaded with shredded chicken, beef, or pork. Add tortillas for a TacQ.
Everything from the dry rub to the classic sides (BBQ beans made with four different kinds, horseradish-spiked coleslaw) is made from scratch. Save room for cobblers. And you’re rolling.
Barbie’s Q, Abbot Kinney Boulevard, at San Juan Avenue, Venice (310-989-5110 or barbiesq.com). Follow the smoke on twitter.com/barbiesq.

I had the combo sliders with horseradish coleslaw at Dwell on Design. The roasted chicken and pulled pork were great. An exhibitor sharing a table with us was nice enough to let us taste the BBQ beans, which were also good because it used a few different kinds of beans. He even offered us a bite of his ribs! I only followed this on Twitter for a couple of days.
The shredded beef brisket may have been a little too rich for the balmy weather but the sauce was okay. The girl gives you a fork wrapped in a large napkin but I wish they also had wipes for sticky fingers. The only side I haven’t had is the potato salad. They had peach cobbler yesterday afternoon but I was too full to taste it. You can also have the beef or chicken as tacos.
Just had lunch at the Barbie’s Q truck staked outside the “pharmacy” on Abbot Kinney blvd.
The owner is a welcoming guy and hands out samples to “hook you”
Good smoked flavor. (10 hour smoke, so says the purveyor) I ordered the sliders combo with pulled chicken, beef and of course pulled pork. The meat was flavorful, the chicken was a bit dry. Overall good lunch alternative on Abbot Kinney. Make sure you grab some extra sauce!
If someone would have told me I could get great BBQ from a truck I would have likely laughed mockingly and walked away!
With the advent of the ‘gourmet’ food trucks twittering along, thanks to Kogi or whoever else wants to take credit, there seems to be no shortage of people jumping on the bandwagon. What this means is I’ve been able to try out some more exotic/interesting fair, and thankfully as of yet I haven’t been disappointed. Barbie’s Q was our first stop on the Abbot and Kiney 1st Friday truck tour, and what a way to start out. Because I knew we’d be sampling a few trucks I wanted to limit the intake so I picked up a couple of sliders, pulled pork and brisket to be exact. The brisket had a nice smokey flavour to the meat that stood out really nicely. The pulled pork was a little on the fatty side but had just the right amount of smoke and flavour, the pork ended up being the prefered meat for both me and the wife. Both meats were served up light on the sauce which was nice because 1) eating on the street it’s tough to find a sink to clean up at 2) if you cook the meat right you shouldn’t need sauce! The blemish on the evening was the baked beans, I’m pretty sure they pulled them out of the fridge since they were still cold, sadly they were tossed mostly uneaten. My other chief complaint is that the meal was a bit on the pricey side. If memory serves almost $7 for two sliders a side and no drink. When compared to what we were getting from some of the other trucks it was just a bit high.
I don’t think I’m going out on a limb here when I say this is the best BBQ you’re going to get off of an LA Catering truckI!
